I used to write

I used to write. Like, a lot. From 2nd grade to 6th/7th grade the vast majority of my time online was spent typing thousands of words in my little Google Docs (back before they made them take up space in your Drive!). I remember getting back home from school in fifth grade and running upstairs every day to log on my mother's laptop because I was so excited to write. And then, at some point, I stopped. I don't think it was any singular thing that did it, but all that creative energy trickled away. There were a few more attempts to express my stories through two failed comics (posted to Webtoon and then neglected). I still do art, and I am far better at it than I ever was at writing. But writing was... special, somehow. Art is wonderful, but dozens of portraits of my characters do not make a story. The *real* story is trapped in my head and making it reality has become a distant dream.

Regret

I should have kept on making my first comic. I should have kept reading. I had so much time back then. I should have been a better writer, a smarter kid. I should have kept on going. Maybe then I never would have gotten too old to care.

Critic

I don't create, not in the way I used to. I watch and I consume and I consume and I criticize. I grasp their darlings in my careless hands and I ruthlessly rip them and I laugh and laugh. I destroy and I consume but I don't create.
